Conversations on a Bench

On October 9th–10th, In His Name-Colleton joined ministries across North America for Conversations on a Bench, a 24-hour event held in honor of World Homeless Day. For a full day, our Executive Director, Amanda Herndon, sat on a simple bench outside our office listening, learning, and sharing stories that remind us what hope looks like in our community.

Throughout the day and night, neighbors, pastors, community partners, and friends stopped by to sit and talk. The conversations were real and honest about homelessness, hunger, recovery, faith, and the ways our community shows up for one another. Between interviews, there were quiet prayers, laughter, and plenty of coffee to keep the team going.

Our local livestream became a space for connection. People tuned in from home, dropped off socks and underwear, and brought food and snacks to share. Behind the scenes, our team kept things moving fielding questions online, coordinating guests, and helping Amanda stay awake as the hours went on.

We’re deeply grateful for everyone who joined, donated, prayed, or simply listened. Because of your support, we can keep meeting needs in Colleton County through hot meals, food pantry support, hygiene care, and genuine relationships that restore hope.
